Sailing ship summary

Our sailing barge is over a century old. During her long life she has explored the Dutch waters carrying cargo and goods from one place to the next.

Nowadays she has been refitted to accommodate groups of passengers. With a luxury design that is reminiscent of the early 1900's, she provides a place to stay, unwind and relax.

Sailing ship description

The atmosphere on the barge makes you wonder about the adventures of earlier days, the life people must have lived and all the unknown shores this ship must have visited..

The interior
Our ship is re-designed in the style of the period when it was built, the early 1900's. We have furnished this design by adding comfortable Bohemian elements while retaining a spacious atmosphere on the boat.

There are no separate cabins or rooms. Rather we have chosen to create areas. This means that there is less privacy between guests but more space in the boat's interior.

It is divided into three sections:

  • In the front are two double beds of 180 by 140cm.
  • In the corner is one bed of 180 by 160cm.
  • In the living area are two optional beds available. One is 180cm by 140cm and the other one is a sleeping couch that can be turned into a bed.

We can provide sleeping space for 10 people, but recommend a maximum of 8 people on the boat.

Kitchen
The kitchen is well equipped and practical in design.

Toilets
The toilets are spacious and work just like they do at home.

Shower
There is one shower on the boat and it is located at the aft. As being a real ship, getting to and from the shower is a bit of a walk. However, the shower itself is very spacious, has a strong water pressure and works really well.

Good to knows
It is really important to know that the boat does NOT have an address. The address mentioned here in the ad is actually the address of the nearby harbor-masters office. The boat is moored at a wooden dock, behind a black fence right next to a stone slipway and diagonally across from the "Marina club". If in doubt you can always call us to come and pick you up.

Furthermore
Our ship is a piece of Dutch maritime heritage. While we welcome anyone who wants to experience what it's like to enjoy her comforts, we urge and ask anyone doing so to treat her and her environment with respect. Everything on it has been handcrafted and while the boat is sturdy and robust, she can also be fragile and sensitive.

How to get there

The ship is located in IJburg, an area in the East of Amsterdam. From Schiphol Airport is it about 25 minutes by car/taxi or 50 minutes by public transport.

If you take tram 26 (IJburg) from Amsterdam Central Station, it will take you only 20 minutes to get to the stop 'IJburg', from there its only 1 minute walk to the boat.

There are also paid parking spots right across the street and many busses, including nightlines, that can transport you 24/7 from the boat to the centre and back again.

About the area

The ship is moored in the marina of IJburg. Characteristic of the IJburg district is that it is located on an archipelago of artificial islands in the IJmeer. As a result, the ship is right next to (or should we say in) the IJmeer. As a result, you are simply a few minutes away from beautiful nature reserves. The swamp forest 'Diemer Vijfhoek' is a well-known one, where the alternation of marsh forest, open water and reed lands make it a true bird paradise. You can walk here from the boat in 20 minutes.

Fort Island Pampus is a stone's throw from the venue. The ferry service to Pampus even leaves just around the corner from us. Do you want to go on an adventure a little further? Polder IJdoorn and Vuurtoreneiland are located slightly to the north of the location and can be reached via Zeeburg. Here you can walk beautifully and enjoy the unique flora & fauna.

Still looking for the crowds? Amsterdam is less than 20 minutes away.

Sailing ship owner

Vera / Tim

Hi there! I am Vera, and I am running two amazing sailing barges in IJburg, just outside of Amsterdam. I am an absolute water lover, and try to be as much on the water as possible, mostly with kitesurfing, but adding wave surfing and sailing to it as well.

    Book it!!

Book it! This is a unique and not-to-miss occasion to build beautiful memories. We loved the boat, the proximity to the sea and the city center. The communication with Peter was always easy and fast. We stayed for 3 days as a family. The boat has fantastic design and light fall. Just 1 min to some nice places to eat, 3 min to the next supermarket and 5 min to the train station that takes you to the central station of Amsterdam in 15min. And all this while the area is so residential and calm that you will have a good night sleep as well! We'll be back!

    Fantastic experience

Fantastic experience! It was a very cool and memorable to stay on the boat. The location is nice, just a bus or tram ride from the city center. There is a grocery store very close by. The owners are helpful with questions you have about the boat.
