Sailing ship summary

Step aboard on our sailing ship, a Frisian vessel of the type 'tjalk', and you will breathe the atmosphere of over 110 years of history. Located close to Amsterdam this is the perfect location to spend a great time with friends or families close to an amazing city, yet enjoy the tranquility this area has to offer.

Sailing ship description

The unique selling point of this ship, built in 1906, is without a doubt that it is actually really sailing. But even with the sails down it is still an unforgettable experience to stay here. You will feel like a true captain as soon as you get aboard.

You will embark in 'Durgerdam', a unique part of Amsterdam with amazing wide views over both the water and the green fields behind you. Sleeping up to 12 guests, this boat is suitable for larger groups that want to have a one-of-a-kind experience. During the summer it is really great swimming around here, you can jump right into the water from the boat.

The living room is large and cozy, with a tv/dvd/audio installation. The open kitchen offers all the utensils you need to prepare a proper meal, also for larger groups, including a microwave, oven, fridge/freezer combination, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.

The large windows in the ceiling let in lots of light, ensuring a bright atmosphere aboard. The authentic wooden floor and wood-stove contribute to the cosines of the ship, as well as the many nautical details such as the portholes and wooden walls and ceiling.

The bathroom has a shower, wash basin and a separate toilet.

The guests will sleep in beds divided over three huts. One hut offers three double beds, the second hut has two double (or large single) beds and the third hut has two single bunk-beds. Since you will be staying at an actual ship, these spaces are kind of limited, but we think this is largely compensated by the sense of freedom on the rest of this majestic vessel.

The deck of the ship is a great place to relax and enjoy the picturesque surroundings. We also offer the option to rent bikes and canoes for reasonable prices. And of course we provide information about things to do in the neighborhood, hiking and cycling routes.

Amsterdam city center can be reached by car and taxi in less than 15 minutes. If you use public transport or a bike, this ride will take you about 30 minutes.

So if you fancy a unique experience in an amazing rural setting, sleep aboard of a spacious hundred-year old authentic ship and yet close to the vibrant Amsterdam city center, this is your perfect pick!

Note: prices given concern only the stay aboard of the ship, so sailing is not included in the price. For more information about sailing with us, contact us via the enquiry form. We also arrange day trips to Volendam.

    Fantastic!

We were a group of 7 friends and had chosen the boat. From reception to farewell, we were totally thrilled and had a fantastic time on the ship. Martijn and Reijn were great, uncomplicated and super communicative hosts. There was nothing missing and we will certainly rent a boat again when we travel back to Amsterdam. Many Thanks!!!

    House boat

I wasn't there because of an accident but my fiancé and his friends were there and they said it was an amazing experience. They had a lot of space and the owner was really nice. It was a little bit far away from the main center of Amsterdam but if you want silence after partying then this is the best option.

Fancy location to stay with a larger group in Amsterdam

Really cool place to stay at. We cruised with the boat to the harbor of Amsterdam and stayed there for three nights. Martijn was a great host and always there when needed. Just perfect to have fun stay with a larger group.

    Thanks Martijn!

Perfect Amsterdam houseboat for larger groups

A perfect space for group vacation. The boat was all we wanted and more. A generous seating and cooking area. Warm and comfortable. Martijn was a pleasure to deal with, very accommodating and helpful. There is an outdoor decking area on a boat next to the Johanna which was great for sitting and drinking with friends, even a small BBQ. The location was out of the main city, with a great view of the city lights from the deck, a 15minute taxi ride was easy to arrange with uber, and the local Taxi firms, just make sure you can pronounce the place first :)
