    Ahoy !

This lovely boat is in an ideal location. Safe, quiet, and very close to the city. The salon is big enough for everyone to eat, play games, hang out, and the kitchen area is well equipped. Showers were nice and hot. Supermarket close enough to make shopping easy. Good for a bunch of people wanting to spend time together informally.

    Four fun days...

Four of us (two couples) booked the Avontuur for a wonderful four-day cruise around the Amsterdam area prior to a longer circumnavigation of the UK on a large cruise ship leaving out of Amsterdam. The sleeping accommodations were tight but comfortable. The salon area was large for relaxing, and the galley was completely equipped for any kind of meal prep, with provisions sourced from local groceries at our overnight stops.

Our time on Avontuur took us out of its berthing spot in Amsterdam West to Haarlem for a day and overnight, then south to Leiden for a day and overnight, then back to Amsterdam. We moored against the canal side in the center of these beautiful Renaissance cities, so walking to local historical sights, markets, and pubs was easy and fascinating. The whole experience was made delightful by the owner, Tom, and his very capable crew (and partner) Marlane.

If you have an interest in boating at all, this Klipper ship offers a sailing experience out of yesteryear. As an old sailor myself, it was a joy to watch Tom and Marlane handle this 90-ton, nearly one-hundred-foot-long, flat-bottom steel barge expertly in narrow, winding, and sometimes crowded waterways. The jockeying for correct positioning to pass through the many bridges and a few locks took an expert knowledge of the wind, currents, and the boat’s response to the use of engine power, the rudder, and the leeboards on each side of the ship. Our modern world is losing not only sailors with these kinds of skills on the water but boats not loaded with technology, as well. What a fun time we had on this old beauty!

    This was an amazing experience!

We loved staying on this boat! We came with 5 of us, so we each had our own space to call home for 5 nights. The hosts were helpful and kind! Easy to walk to city center, groceries were a 10 min walk away, the extra space in the kitchen was great to hang with fam to play cards and just visit. Having no TV was nice as it made our family hang together. Definitely would stay again!

    Overall great!

Had a great time onboard. The first night there were some problems with the heating, but that was fixed quickly the next day. Great boat with lots of space to chill out in, thanks Tom!
